Fudan University President Jin Li: Using Innovation to Write a Good "Wordless Book"

"In one's lifetime, one should read two major books: reading 'books with words', learning and inheriting the knowledge and wisdom of humanity; reading' books without words', 'learning from society, learning from reality, and learning from the masses', enriching one's understanding of the world through empirical and practical experience." At the 2024 graduate graduation ceremony of Fudan University held today, Fudan University President Jin Li sent a message to graduates that innovative practice cannot stop at the moment of graduation, but should continuously expand the boundaries of knowledge and understanding, and strive to shape a unique life experience and innovative life.

Jin Li said that writing a "book without words" with innovation and walking the path of life well have three levels of realm: bravely exploring the "realm without words" under one's feet, skillfully solving the "problem without words" with one's hands, and willingly standing a "monument without words" in one's heart.

In today's era, the paradigm of science and innovation is undergoing transformation, and the speed of knowledge updating is unprecedented. Jin Li stated that in order to promote China to become a leading innovative country and lay a solid foundation for the sustainable development of new productive forces, it is necessary to climb the Mount Everest of Science and Technology and enable more talents to move towards the endless forefront of science. As contemporary Chinese intellectuals and innovators of the new era, we must step out of our comfort zone, embrace new paradigms, and actively adapt to new requirements and environments. This is his guidance for graduates to explore the "borderless realm".

In recent years, Fudan University has produced many world leading achievements, including innovation in AI basic theories, research tool development, training, iteration, and application of multimodal large models, and vertical fields such as material science, atmospheric science, life medicine, and humanities and social sciences. In addition, the school has established a cross disciplinary research and development center, soliciting and selecting a group of key scientific questions to accelerate the construction of a scientific intelligent innovation ecosystem.

This is a 'great march' to reshape the knowledge frontier of humanity. Jin Li encourages graduates to seize opportunities and move forward courageously, no matter where they are, to become a part of driving history and society forward.

Nowadays, the reform and opening up has entered a "deep water zone", and practical problems often have neither ready-made answers nor standard question stems. This poses greater demands and challenges for graduating students on how to apply what they have learned and serve society.

Jin Li believes that in order to solve the problem without words well, one must face challenges and solve problems.

For example, he said that in recent years, many humanities and social science teachers in Fudan have explored the innovation and transformation of new liberal arts, put the service of "the largest in the country" and solving major theoretical and practical problems at the core, and built a number of Chinese path to modernization action research experimental bases and liberal arts laboratories.

A high degree should be transformed into a high-level and high-quality reputation through humble learning and unremitting struggle. Jinli hopes that graduates can continuously surpass themselves, achieve unexpected performance, solve unexpected problems, and achieve unexpected growth.

How many years behind China is India's per capita GDP of $2500?

I have seen this set of data: looking at the export value of goods, India lags behind China by 17 years; Looking at the total amount of foreign exchange reserves, India lags behind China by 19 years; Compared to the actual amount of foreign direct investment utilized by the two countries, India is only equivalent to China from 2003 to 2004, lagging behind by 20 years. Observing the research patents of China and India, India lags behind China by at least 21 years. The authenticity of these values has not been verified by Nansheng and is for your reference only. But this reminds me of another question worth paying attention to, which year is the level of India's economy comparable to that of our country? Focus on comparing economic scale and per capita GDP Taking the GDP of China and India in the past year as an example, India's economic scale in 2023 is approximately 288.3 trillion rupees, or 3.49 trillion US dollars. There is no exact matching year, the closest is 2007, with Ch...
